Sausage Rolls have always been popular with kids and although they are easy to buy and put in the oven, they are surprisingly easy to make. Ok, you can cheat with ready made puff pastry to make it easier, but we won’t complain – Puff Pastry is hard to master!
Ingredients
Makes One Portion
100g Puff Pastry
100g Pork Mince
¼ Onion, chopped
½ Clove Garlic, crushed
1 Tsp Mixed Herbs
Salt and Pepper
Egg Wash
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 190ᵒC.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the pork mince, chopped onion, garlic and mixed herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Lightly flour a clean work surface.
- Roll out your puff pastry into a long thin rectangle, about 3mm thick.
- Use your hands to roll the mince into a long thin sausage.
- Place the sausage into the middle of the pastry.
- Egg wash one side of the pastry. Fold the other side of the pastry over the meat and use the egg wash to stick the sides together. Lightly press down on the meat to make sure there are no air bubbles.
- Use a fork along the closed edges to give a nice shape and secure the sides together.
- Cut into even sized sausage rolls. Brush each sausage roll with a little egg wash.
- Place the sausage rolls onto a lined baking sheet and put them into the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes until the pastry is golden. Check the filling is cooked by cutting one in half. Remove them from the oven.
