Pizza Swirls

These have been one of our most popular ‘party food’ recipes from our workshops! The kids love them and so do we! Try adding in your favourite pizza toppings if you like 🙂

Ingredients

Pizza Dough:

  • 500g Strong Bread Flour
  • 7g Dried Yeast
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 300ml Water
  • Olive Oil

  • 200g Mozzarella/ Cheddar Cheese, grated

Tomato Sauce:

  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 Garlic Clove, crushed
  • 400g Tin of Chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 Tsp Mixed Herbs
  • Salt and Pepper

Directions

Pizza Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast and salt.
  2. Slowly add the water and use a cutlery knife to combine. Bring the dough together in your hands.
  3. Place the dough on a clean floured surface and knead it until it is soft with an even texture. When you press a finger into the dough to make a dent it should spring back and almost close up.
  4. Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover with oiled Clingfilm. Leave until doubled in size (about an hour).

Pizza Sauce

  1. Meanwhile, heat a little oil in a saucepan and add the onion. Cook for a few minutes and add the garlic. Add the tomatoes and herbs. Bring to the boil and then leave to simmer until it thickens. Remove from the heat and leave to cool.

Preparing your pizza swirls

  1. Preheat the oven to 200áµ’c. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
  2. Remove the dough from the bowl and place onto a clean, lightly floured work surface.
  3. Seperate the dough in two and roll each piece into a rectangle just bigger than an A4 sheet of paper.
  4. Spread your sauce over the entire pizza and sprinkle with the cheese.
  5. Gently roll the dough away from you (having the longer side straight in front of you). Use a pizza roller or sharp knife to cut 1inch slices and place them onto the baking tray side by side, swirls facing up.
  6. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until baked through and lightly golden.
