This might not be the original garlic bread that you’re used to.. but it sure is tasty! Why not add grated cheese to it 5 minutes before it needs to come out of the oven to make it even better! Be creative with the shape too.. if you don’t fancy plaiting it, make little dough balls and push them together to create a tear and share bread!
Ingredients
- 250g Strong Bread Flour
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 7g Fast Action Dried yeast
- 150ml Warm Water
- 50ml Vegetable Oil, plus extra for greasing
- 5 Cloves Garlic, crushed
- 1Tbsp Oregano
- 1 Tsp Sea Salt
Directions
- Stir together the flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl.
- Pour about 140ml of the warm water into the flour mixture. Use a cutlery knife to quickly stir the water into the flour. The ingredients will come together in large flakes. Where the mixture looks dry, add some of the remaining water and continue to stir until all of the dough comes together.
- Dust a clean work surface with flour. Bring the dough together in your hands and place on the work surface. Knead the bread dough until it is smooth and it springs back when you press it.
- Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with a lightly oiled piece of Clingfilm and leave the dough to rise for about an hour, until it has doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, mix together the oil, garlic, oregano and sea salt.
- Once it has risen, knock the dough back (knead it again). Shape it into one large round and then slightly flatten it out.
- Cut the bread into 6 sections, from the outside almost into the centre but leaving the centre together. Cut each piece into 3 and plait, tucking the ends underneath. Repeat with all pieces and place onto a lined baking tray. Generously brush all over with the garlic oil. Preheat the oven to 180ᵒC and leave the bread to prove for 15-20 minutes.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden.
