Creative Pasties

Being creative makes dinners so much more fun and interesting. That’s why I’ve made it your decision on what to add to your pasties. During a class I will provide a selection of tasty ingredients and everyone’s pasties will be unique and individual. Cutting and making shapes to stick on the pasties is lots of fun and tests your creativity.

Ingredients

Makes Two

  • 250g Puff Pastry
  • Egg wash

Be creative in choosing the fillings for your pasties, or just use up what you have in the fridge.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200ᵒc.
  2. Flour your work surface and roll out your puff pastry to long a 5mm thick rectangle. Use a small round plate as a stencil to cut out two circles from the pastry. Save the off cuts of pastry to make shapes of your choice to decorate your pasties.
  3. Choose your fillings and cut them into even sized pieces. (If using meat, make sure you precook it). Add to a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Place a large spoonful of your filling into the centre of your pastry circles.
  5. Lightly egg wash all around the outside of the circle.
  6. Fold the circle in half by bringing two opposite sides together in the middle. Pinch the edges to stick it together and create a crinkled effect, making sure the filling is completely concealed in the pastry, with no gaps or holes.
  7. Lightly brush egg wash over the pastry and then place your shapes on top, then brush over your shapes with egg wash.
  8. Place the pies on a baking tray and into the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
