These cheese rolls are a fantastic vegetarian alternative to sausage rolls.. or dare I say it, more popular when we’ve made them in class. They’re a must make!
Ingredients
Makes One Portion
- 100g Puff Pastry
- 100g Cheddar Cheese
- 50g Fresh Breadcrumbs
- ¼ Onion, chopped
- 1 Tsp Mixed Herbs
- Salt and Pepper
- Egg Wash
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 190ᵒC.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the cheese, breadcrumbs, onion and herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Lightly flour a clean work surface.
- Roll out your puff pastry into a long thin rectangle, about 3mm thick.
- Spread the cheese mixture along the middle of the pastry.
- Egg wash one side of the pastry. Fold the other side of the pastry over the mixture and use the egg wash to stick the sides together. Lightly press down on the mixture to make sure there are no air bubbles.
- Use a fork along the closed edges to give a nice shape and secure the sides together.
- Cut into even sized rolls. Brush each cheese roll with a little egg wash.
- Place the cheese rolls onto a lined baking sheet and put them into the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes until the pastry is golden. Remove them from the oven.
