Mixed Fruit Crumble

Who doesn’t love a crumble? This recipe is super easy. The preparation can take as little as 15 minutes and it can be served 30 minutes later. Try the below alternative to have it ready in just half an hour.

Ingredients

Serves 5-6

For the crumble:

  • 200g Plain Flour
  • 125g Butter, cubed
  • 60g Brown Sugar

For the fruit:

  • 500g Chosen Fruit*
  • 50g Caster sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200ᵒc.
  2. Prepare your chosen fruit by peeling and chopping into chunks if necessary. Place the fruit into a medium sized oven proof dish and sprinkle over the sugar (if using cooking apples, precook slightly in a saucepan with the suagr and then pour into the dish). Stir around the dish to evenly coat.
  3. Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl and add your cubed butter. Use your fingertips to rub the butter and flour together until no lumps of butter remain. Pour in the sugar and stir with a large spoon.
  4. Spoon the crumble mixture over your fruit and spread evenly.
  5. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes until the crumble has browned on the top and the fruit has softened underneath.
  6. Serve with warm custard.

Alternatively, bake just the crumble on a large lined baking sheet at the top of the oven for 10-12 minutes until it is evenly golden. Precook the fruit in a saucepan with the sugar, spoon into a bowl and sprinkle the crumble on top.

*You can buy Frozen Mixed Fruits in various supermarkets. One bag is usually 500g, so perfect for this recipe.
